SHAPING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER
University Strategic Plan
In 2024, Cal State LA announced its ambitious new strategic plan, Shaping Our Future Together, which will define the university’s highest priorities. The plan will identify the institutional priorities, embed strategy throughout all initiatives, align resources with goals, and inspire pride and ownership across the campus community.
The University Strategic Plan is being developed in tandem with three other major planning efforts: an Academic Plan, a Strategic Enrollment Management Plan, and a Facilities Master Plan. Together, these plans will ensure that Cal State LA is positioned to thrive in a rapidly changing educational landscape, with a clear strategy that reflects our legacy, mission of purpose, and community impact throughout the region and beyond.
The president has asked the plan to be delivered in Spring 2026 to chart a bold course for the next five years.
What is a Facilities Master Plan?
A Facilities Master Plan (FMP) establishes a framework for the orderly growth and development of campus capital improvements. It is designed to respond to current and future institutional needs while remaining flexible enough to adapt to anticipated change. In this vein, the main goal of this plan is to support a thriving future for Cal State LA. The university has launched a comprehensive planning process that will continue through Spring 2026 in alignment with Cal State LA’s strategic planning efforts.
An interdisciplinary team of planners and designers from Sasaki is partnering with the Cal State LA community to lead this visioning process. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other key stakeholders will play an essential role in shaping the future of the campus. Sasaki is further supported by a broader consultant team that includes:
This plan will consider both the short-term (10-year) outlook and a longer-term 20-year transformation of the campus. It will inform near-term operational decisions as well as long-range investments in facilities and infrastructure.
The Facilities Master Plan will address current campus needs while aligning with ongoing and emerging initiatives. Key priorities include supporting the whole student, public realm improvements, strategic capital investments, and alignment with academic, enrollment, and strategic planning.
We look forward to hearing about your experiences at Cal State LA and your hopes for its future. Your feedback is welcome and will play a meaningful role in shaping the direction of this plan.
